Lanzhou, called Jincheng in ancient times, now is the
capital of Gansu province, is a city has a long-standing
history of more than 2,000 years. With its location
at the intersection of the Yellow River --- the mother
river of Chinese nation, and the Silk Road --- the ancient
road of trading and propagating culture, the city is
taken as an important historical and cultural pivot
of inheriting the 5,000 years history of China and linking
China and the Western world by the 7,000 kilometers
long Silk Road. Go northwestwards from Lanzhou, pass
through the Hexi Corridor, is the world-famous ¡°Art
Treasury¡± --- Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes; go southeastwards
not far from Lanzhou, is the famed ¡°Oriental Sculpture
Art Gallery¡± --- Maijishan grottoes; located southeast
from Lanzhou is the Neolithic cultural relic --- Majia
Kiln cultural relic of the East Village Lin family,
where unearthed the earliest bronze ware in China ¡
This land has such a massive historical accumulation,
and such a rich cultural sedimentation, and these historical
and cultural accumulations are just the themes engraved
and propagated by Chinese Precious Metal Commemorative
Coins! The already issued series of Chinese Silk Road,
unearthed cultural relics, and the series of Yellow
River Civilization reflected the essence of Chinese
traditional culture!
This convention took exhibition as the central activity,
and selling as a complement. The exhibition publicized
numismatic culture, introduced relevant policies and
development course of the issuance of precious metal
commemorative coins, popularized knowledge of coins
on collection and appreciation through colorful publicizing
activities such as showcasing commemorative coins, putting
up exhibition boards with pictorial and textual illustrations,
making on-the-spot interpretations, showing multi-media
demonstrations, and organizing a symposium. The convention
enabled visitors to systematically acquaint with the
knowledge of precious metal commemorative coins while
appreciating the charm of coins in zero distance.
The organizing committee mobilized forces of all sides,
and prepared ample display items for the convention,
including more than 500 pieces of commemorative coins
of the Silk Road series, Olympics series, and Sports
series, as well as hundreds of ancient coins, made this
convention a real numismatic pageant.
The city of Lanzhou was in great refulgence from July
30th to August 1st, 2004, with these resplendent precious
metal commemorative coins. The bright color of orange
(the thematic tone of this convention) became a charming
