---The 2nd Convention of Chinese Precious Metal Commemorative Coins was held in
Lanzhou, Gansu Province
Elaborately projected and organized by China Gold Coin Incorporation, the 2nd Convention of Chinese Precious Metal Commemorative Coins was held from July 30th to August 1st, 2004, in the Provincial Numismatic Museum of Gansu Province. This convention is sponsored by China Gold Coin Incorporation, Chinese Numismatic Museum, and People¡¯s Bank of China Xian Branch, undertaken by People¡¯s Bank of China Lanzhou Central Branch, Beijing Gold Coin News Ltd., co-organized by Beijing Kaiyuan Chinese Gold Coin Distribution Center, Gansu Numismatic Association, the Provincial Numismatic Museum of Gansu Province. Companies attended at the convention include Shanghai Gold Coin Investment Co. Ltd., Shenzhen Guobao Mint Ltd., and representatives from branch institutions of CGCI and some special engaged distributors.
The 1st Convention of Chinese Precious Metal Commemorative Coins which was held successfully in November 2003, in Ningbo, established a new brand of publicizing Chinese precious metal commemorative coins, and structured a new platform of propagandizing gold coin culture. ¡°Popularizing knowledge, propagating culture, enlarging the group of collectors, activating collection activities¡± is the unaltered tenet of the convention, the purpose of which is publicizing numismatic culture, popularizing numismatic knowledge, cultivating a collection atmosphere, promoting the in-depth development of coin collection activities in different regions. The 2nd Convention of Chinese Precious Metal Commemorative Coins chose Lanzhou as the convening city, and fixed the theme as
"tracing the silk road civilization, inheriting numismatic culture, cultivating market in the western areas, promoting regional collection activities". The purpose of this convention is through exhibiting commemorative coins under the theme of silk road civilization to popularize numismatic knowledge, enrich the cultural life of the western people, and enlarge the group of collectors.
Lanzhou, called Jincheng in ancient times, now is the capital of Gansu province, is a city has a long-standing history of more than 2,000 years. With its location at the intersection of the Yellow River --- the mother river of Chinese nation, and the Silk Road --- the ancient road of trading and propagating culture, the city is taken as an important historical and cultural pivot of inheriting the 5,000 years history of China and linking China and the Western world by the 7,000 kilometers long Silk Road. Go northwestwards from Lanzhou, pass through the Hexi Corridor, is the world-famous ¡°Art Treasury¡± --- Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes; go southeastwards not far from Lanzhou, is the famed ¡°Oriental Sculpture Art Gallery¡± --- Maijishan grottoes; located southeast from Lanzhou is the Neolithic cultural relic --- Majia Kiln cultural relic of the East Village Lin family, where unearthed the earliest bronze ware in China ¡­ This land has such a massive historical accumulation, and such a rich cultural sedimentation, and these historical and cultural accumulations are just the themes engraved and propagated by Chinese Precious Metal Commemorative Coins! The already issued series of Chinese Silk Road, unearthed cultural relics, and the series of Yellow River Civilization reflected the essence of Chinese traditional culture!
This convention took exhibition as the central activity, and selling as a complement. The exhibition publicized numismatic culture, introduced relevant policies and development course of the issuance of precious metal commemorative coins, popularized knowledge of coins on collection and appreciation through colorful publicizing activities such as showcasing commemorative coins, putting up exhibition boards with pictorial and textual illustrations, making on-the-spot interpretations, showing multi-media demonstrations, and organizing a symposium. The convention enabled visitors to systematically acquaint with the knowledge of precious metal commemorative coins while appreciating the charm of coins in zero distance.
The organizing committee mobilized forces of all sides, and prepared ample display items for the convention, including more than 500 pieces of commemorative coins of the Silk Road series, Olympics series, and Sports series, as well as hundreds of ancient coins, made this convention a real numismatic pageant.
The city of Lanzhou was in great refulgence from July 30th to August 1st, 2004, with these resplendent precious metal commemorative coins. The bright color of orange (the thematic tone of this convention) became a charming scenery in Lanzhou.
