coins, the People’s Bank of China issued a set of Chinese Grotto Art
(The Maijishan Grottoes) gold and silver
commemorative coins in July 28th, 2004, the intraday issuance ceremony
was held in Tianshui, Gansu Province.
At the ceremony, the reporter was informed that this set of Chinese
Grotto Art (The Maijishan Grottoes) gold
and silver commemorative coins comprises 3 coins, a 1/2oz. gold coin,
a 5oz. gold coin, a 2oz. silver coin.
The common obverse design of this set of commemorative coins features
the panoramic scene of the Majinshan, as
well as the title of the PRC., year of issuance, and Chinese characters
--- "中国石窟艺术·麦积山". The reverse
of the 5oz. gold coin features the sitting Buddha statue (partial)
of the Maijishan grottoes and the pattern
of Apsaras, and the face value. The reverse of the 1/2oz. gold coin
features the sitting Buddha statue of the
Maijishan grottoes (partial) and the face value. The reverse of the
2oz. silver coin features the standing
statues of Biqiuni Bodhisattva of the Maijishan grottoes, and the
face value.
The specifications and mintage of this set of commemorative coins
are: The 1/2oz gold coin is proof in
quality, round in shape, 27mm in diameter, 200 Yuan in face value,
99.9% in purity, and contains of 1/2 oz of
pure gold. The mintage is 8,800 pieces; the 5oz gold coin is proof
in quality, round in shape, 60mm in
diameter, 2000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in purity, and contains of
5 oz of pure gold. The mintage is 288
pieces; the 2oz silver coin is proof in quality, round in shape, 40mm
in diameter, 20 Yuan in face value,
99.9% in purity, and contains of 2 oz of pure silver. The mintage
is 20,000 pieces.
This set of commemorative gold and silver coins are minted by Shenyang
Mint, and exclusively distributed by
China Gold Coin Incorporation. The domestic prices announced by CGCI
are: ¥2,810 for one piece of the 1/2oz.
gold coin; ¥430 for one piece of the 2oz. silver coin; ¥27,860 for
one piece of the 5oz. gold coin. |
