Under the No. 268 decree issued by the State Council at June 30, 1999, the People's Bank of China will issue the

fifth set of Renminbi at Nov.18,2002. This set includes a 5 Yuan paper note and a 5 Jiao Coin.

1. Main Features of the 5 Yuan paper note:

The main hue of the 5 Yuan Paper note is purple, printed in a length of 135mm, and a width of 63mm. The theme

design of the obverse is the effigy of Mao Zedong, the left side features the pattern of flowers, on the upper left is the

national emblem, and a line of numbers printed in red and black is on the lower left, on the lower right is the face

value in braille. The reverse design mainly features Mount Tai, on the upper right is the face value and "the People's

Bank of China" in Chinese phonetic alphabet "ZHONGGUO RENMIN YINHANG" and also in alphabet of the

Mongolian nationality, the Zang nationality, the Uygur nationality and the Zhuang nationality.

2. Main Features of the 5 Jiao coin:

The 5 Jiao coin is golden lustered, 20.5mm in diameter, the material is copper plated steel. The obverse side is

minted with "中国人民银行", face value, Chinese phonetic alphabet "WUJIAO" and year 2002. The reverse side mianly

features the pattern of lotus with Chinese phonetic alphabet "ZHONGGUO RENMIN YINHANG" minted above. The

rim is minted with disconnected filiform sawtooth, each section has eight parallel filiform sawtooth.
