The People's Bank of China will issue a set of Chinese Grotto Art ¡ª¡ªMaijishan Grottoes Commemorative Gold and Silver Coins. This set consists of three coins, two in gold and one in silver, which are all legal tender of the PBC.
I. Designs on the coins
i. The obverse design
The obverses of this set feature the scene of Maijishan Grottoes, the title of PRC, the year date and "Chinese Grotto Art¡ª¡ªMaijishan" in Chinese.
ii. The reverse designs
i) The reverse of the 1/2oz gold coin depicts part of a seated Buddha from cave 135, and the face value.
ii) The reverse of the 5oz gold coin shows in the foreground the portrait of the seated Buddha from cave 44, while on the background the Buddha's halo from cave 127, and the face value.
iii) The reverse of the 2oz silver coin depicts the standing Bhiksuni and Bodhisattva from cave 121, and the face value.
II. Specifications and Mintages
i. The 1/2oz gold coin is proof in quality, round in shape, 27mm in diameter, 200 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in purity, and contains of 1/2 oz of pure gold. The mintage is 8,800 pieces.
ii. The 5oz gold coin is proof in quality, round in shape, 60mm in diameter, 2000 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in purity, and contains of 5 oz of pure gold. The mintage is 288 pieces.
iii. The 2oz silver coin is proof in quality, round in shape, 40mm in diameter, 20 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in purity, and contains of 2 oz of pure silver. The mintage is 20,000 pieces.
III. This set of commemorative gold and silver coins are minted by Shenyang Mint, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation.
