¡¡ The People¡¯s Bank of China is to issue a 2008 New Year Greeting circulating commemorative coin on January 16th, 2008.
I. Design of the coin
The obverse of the coin features ¡°The People¡¯s Bank of China¡±, Chinese characters and Pinyin of ¡°1 Yuan¡± and the year date 2008.
The reverse of the coin depicts a boy with a rat pattern Chinese knot in his left hand, and a cluster of firework of Chinese character ¡°wealth¡± in his right hand, symbolizing happy New Year and good luck in the year of Rat, and Chinese character of ¡°Wuzi¡± in the right at the bottom of the coin.
II. Face value, specifications, metal and mintage of the coin
The commemorative coin is 1 Yuan in face value, 25 mm in diameter, brass alloy in composition, and the total mintage is 10,000,000 pieces.
III. The coin shares the same function with the current circulating RMB, and could be circulated as the equivalent of the RMB of the same face value.
