The People’s
Bank of China will issue a set of The
Centenary of the Birth of Deng Xiaoping
Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins, and
a set of The Centenary of the Birth of
Deng Xiaoping general commemorative coin
on Aug. 22, 2004. The set of general commemorative
coin is a single-coin set; the precious
metal commemorative coin set comprises
4 coins in all, including two gold coins
weighs respectively 1/2oz. and 5oz., two
silver coins weighs respectively 1oz.
and 1kg. All these coins are legal tender
of the People’s Republic of China.
I. The general commemorative coin
i. Design of the coin
The obverse design of the general commemorative
coin depicts Deng Xiaoping’s former residence
in Guangan, Sichuan province. On the upper
edge engraved the title of the PRC. in
Chinese Characters "中华人民共和国",
on the lower edge engraved the characters
"四川广安邓小平故居", "壹圆",
and "2004"; the reverse design
depicts the profile of Deng Xiaoping,
on the upper edge engraved characters
"邓小平诞辰100周年", and "1904-2004".
On the rim of coin engraved the abbreviation
of Renminbi "RMB".
ii. The face value, specification, metal,
and mintage of the coin
The face value of the coin is 1 Yuan,
the diameter is 25mm, the metal is nickel
plated steel, the mintage is 10 million
pieces.
iii. The commemorative coin functions
equally with Renminbi currently in circulation,
and is equivalent to Renminbi bears the
same face value.
II. The gold and silver coins

i>. The obverse design
The common obverse design depicts the
building of exposition hall of Deng Xiaoping’s
former residence in Guangan, Sichuan province,
and the tile of the PRC, as well as Chinese
characters "四川广安邓小平故居陈列馆", "邓小平诞辰一百周年".
ii. The reverse designs
i>. The reverse design of the 1/2oz.
gold coin depicts the portrait of Deng
Xiaoping during the Sino-Japanese War,
and the face value, Chinese characters
"邓小平" and "1904-2004".
ii>. The reverse design of the 1oz.
silver coin depicts the portrait of Deng
Xiaoping during his term as the Secretary-general
of the Party Central Committee, with the
background of decorative patterns symbolizes
industry and agriculture, and the face
value, Chinese characters "邓小平"
and "1904-2004".
iii>. The reverse design of the 5oz.
gold coin depicts the portrait of Deng
Xiaoping while he was delivering a speech
at the celebration of the 35th Anniversary
of the Founding of the PRC. The background
features the image of Tiananmen, and the
face value, Chinese characters "邓小平"
and "1904-2004".
iv>. The 1kg. silver coin depicts the
portrait of Deng Xiaoping while he was
delivering the important speech during
his tour of inspection in the southern
areas of China in 1992. The background
features buildings in Shenzhen --- China’s
special economic zone, and the face value,
Chinese characters "邓小平" and
"1904-2004".
ii. The specifications and mintages of
the coins
i>. The 1/2oz. gold coin is proof in
quality, contains 1/2oz. pure gold, round
in shape, 27mm in diameter, 200Yuan in
face value, 99.9% in purity. The mintage
is 10,000pc.
ii>. The 1oz. silver coin is proof
in quality, contains 1oz. pure silver,
round in shape, 40mm in diameter, 10Yuan
in face value, 99.9% in purity. The mintage
is 80,000pc.
iii>. The 5oz. gold coin is proof in
quality, contains 5oz. pure gold, round
in shape, 60mm in diameter, 2,000Yuan
in face value, 99.9% in purity. The mintage
is 600pc.
iv>. The 1kg silver coin is proof in
quality, contains 1kg pure silver, round
in shape, 100mm in diameter, 300Yuan in
face value, 99.9% in purity. The mintage
is 5,000pc.
III. This set of gold and silver commemorative
coins were minted by Shenyang Mint and
Shenzhen Guobao Mint, exclusively distributed
by China Gold Coin Incorporation.
