The People’s Bank
of China will issue a set of general commemorative
coin and a set of precious metal commemorative
coins for the 50th anniversary of the system of
the national people’s congress of China on Sept.
9, 2004. The general commemorative coin is a single-coin
set; the precious metal commemorative coin set
comprises 2 coins, one is a 1/2oz. gold coin,
the other is a 1oz. silver coin. All these coins
are the legal tender of the People’s Republic
of China.
I. The general commemorative coin
i. Design of the coin
The obverse design on the general commemorative
coin features the emblem of the PRC; on the upper
inner edge engraves the title of the PRC in Chinese
characters “中华人民共和国”; on the lower inner edge
engraves “2004”. The reverse design features the
People’s Congress Hall; the left side design depicts
the colorful decorated lamps in the hall; on the
upper inner edge engraves Chinese characters “人民代表大会成立五十周年”，and
“1954-2004”; on the lower inner edge engraves
the face value “1元”。
ii. The face value, specification, material,
and mintage of the general commemorative coin
The general commemorative coin is 1Yuan in face
value, 25mm in diameter, the material is nickel
plated steel, the mintage is 10 million pieces.
iii. The general commemorative coin functions
identically with current RMB, and equivalent to
RMB of same face value.
II. The precious metal commemorative coins
i. Designs on the coins
This set of precious metal commemorative coins
share the same obverse and reverse designs.
The common obverse design: the emblem of the
PRC, the image of the People’s Congress Hall and
Chinese ornamental columns, as well as the title
of the PRC, and the year of issuance; the common
reverse design: holographic image of the magnificent
lights on the vault of the hall, and Chinese characters
“人民代表大会成立五十周年纪念”，and the face value.
ii. The specifications and mintages
i>. The 1/2oz. gold coin is proof in quality,
contains 1/2oz. pure gold, round in shape, 27mm
in diameter, 200Yuan in face value, 99.9% in purity,
the mintage is 5,000pc.
ii>. The 1oz. silver coin is proof in quality,
contains 1oz. pure silver, round in shape, 40mm
in diameter, 10Yuan in face value, 99.9% in purity,
the mintage is 50,000pc.
This set of precious metal commemorative coins
were minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint, and exclusively
distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation.
