What
is the Olympic Game?
Beginning in 776 B.C., the Olympic Games were
held in the valley of
Olympia in Greece every four years for almost 1200 years. Inspired
by
the ancient Games, Baron Pierre de Coubertin created the modern
Olympic Games.First staged in 1896, they attracted about 245
athletes (all men) in 43 events. At the Sydney 2000 Games, more than
10,000 athletes took part in 300
events. The Olympic Movement has survived wars, boycotts and terrorism
to become a symbol of the
ability of the people
of all nations
to come together in peace and friendship.
What is the significance of
the Olympic logo?
The Olympic logo is five interlaced rings of one color or of different
colors made up blue, yellow, black,
green and red from left to right. The blue, black and red rings are
a little higher than the yellow and green
ones. According the Olympic Charter, the Olympic five interlaced rings
are the embodiment of the Olympic
Movement. No organization or individual are allowed to use the logo
in advertisement or any other
business activities.
How many Olympic Games have
been held?
Since 1896, 23 Olympic Games have been celebrated
in the following countries. The first Olympic Games
was held in Athens in Greek in 1894 and the second was in Paris in
1900.The 1916, 1940 and 1944
Olympic Games were not held. The 27th Olympics will be held in
Sydney in 2000 and the 28th in Athens in
2004.

The Olympic Spirit is the spirit of mutual understanding,
