What
is the Olympic Movement?
The Olympic movement is an international movement
centered with
sports activities and the Olympic Games held every four years. It
serves
to promote the development of human physiology, psychology , social
ethic, mutual understanding of people all over the world, as well
as the
spread of Olympic spirit and the world peace. The Olympic movement
consists of the IOC, the
International Sports Federations and
the NOCs. It covers many sport activities including the Olympic
Games. The main purpose of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to
building a better and peaceful
world by educating youth through sport, practiced without discrimination
of any kind, and promote mutual
understanding, friendship, solidarity and fair play.
What is the Olympic Charter?
The Olympic Charter contains some fundamental
principles, rules, and regulations adopted by the IOC.
It governs the organization and operation of the Olympic Movement
and stipulates the conditions for the
celebration of the Olympic Games. The first version of the Olympic
Charter was advocated and drafted by
Baron Pierre de Coudertin, a forerunner of the modern Olympic Movement
and well-known educator. The
Olympic Charter was formally adopted in June, 1894. It has been revised
and modified for many times
since it was implemented more than 100 years ago, but the basic principles
and tenet are remained. |
