Olympic
Collectors Commitee
|
As a result, it seemed
appropriate for the IOC to organise Olympic collecting and the world
of Olympic
collectors. The first step was the setting up of an International
Federation of Olympic Philately (FIPO) in 1982,
followed by that of Olympic numismatics (FINO) and Olympic memorabilia
collectors (now FIMO) in March
1993. These three organisations form part of the IOC Olympic Collectors
Commission (OCC). The
Commission organises many events, such as Olympic Collectors' fairs,
the now famous Olymphilex world
show, and the Prix Olympia. The OCC also issues Olympic Catalogues
- for stamps, coins and memorabilia.
Today, the Internet offers exciting opportunities to bring Olympic
collectors together, encourage the exchange
of ideas, communicate the results of historical research, and, above
all, to facilitate the most interesting
aspects of collecting, trading and selling of Olympic collectibles.
The Internet is an excellent means of
communication to keep Olympic collectors abreast of key events, provide
historical information and pass on
names of Clubs and Federations, and to establish links to other Olympic-related
organisations and events.
