Gold and Silver Coins
The Olympics is the abbreviation of the Olympic Games, which are an integrated competition organized by the

IOC. The Olympic Games are originated from Grecian Olympia. The first modern Olympic Games were staged in

Athens, Greece, in 1896, and held every four years, but suspended three times in the two world wars. The

Olympic Winter Games are the winter sports competitions, first staged in 1924.

The IOC stipulated 6 sport items such as Skating and 25 sport items such as Running to compose the Olympic

Winter and Summer Games respectively. Only the Olympic sport items are permitted in the Olympic Games.

According to the Olympic Charter, the sport item which developed broadly at least by 75 countries and 4

continents in male or 40 countries and 3 continents in female can be enlisted in the Olympic Summer sport

items; the sport item which developed broadly at least by 25 countries and 3 continents can be enlisted in the

Olympic Winter sport items.

In commemoration of the centennial of the Olympic Games, we issued the centennial of the Olympic Games

commemorative coins since 1993, and issued 6 coins in 1993 and 1994, one is gold, the other five are silver,

and the face value, the specification, the weight, the fineness, the quality, the mintage of the silver coins are all

the same.

The obverse of the gold coin depicts the title of the PRC, the issuing year 1994 and the national emblem. The

reverse depicts the picture of a female athlete with a torch in hand, the Chinese character ' the centennial of the

Olympic Games, 100' and the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The common obverses of the silver coins depict the

national emblem, the title of the PRC, the issuing year 1993 or 1994. The reverses depict the Toxophily, the

Basketball, the Fence-Play, the Short Running and the Boxing respectively. The mintage of the gold coin is 5000,

and that of the silver coins are 150000.
