¡¡The 17th Olympic Winter Games Commemorative Coins

In 1986 the International Olympic Committee voted to change the schedule of the Olympics so that the Summer

and Winter Games would be held in different years. To adjust to this new schedule, the Lillehammer Olympics

were held in 1994, the only time that two Games have been staged two years apart. The 1994 Games were

extremely well-organized and the Norwegian hosts' natural love of winter sports added a refreshing purity of

spirit. Local hero Johann Koss won three speed skating events and set Vreni Schneider won a complete set of

medals in Alpine skiing and Manuela Di Centa earned medals in all five cross-country events. Myriam B¨¦dard

won both women's individual biathlon races.a world record in every one. Gustav Weder and Donat Acklin became

the first repeat winners of the two-man bobsled. Pairs skaters Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov returned

to repeat their Olympic victory of 1988. To mark the 17th Winter Olympic Games, the People's Bank of China

issued the 17th Winter Olympic Games commemorative gold silver. Altogether 3 coins, one is gold and others

are silver. They all are Chinese legal tender. The obverse of gold coin depicts the National Emblem, the title of the

PRC and the issuing year. The reverse of the gold coin depicts the Man Single Skating. The common obverse of

silver coins are same as the gold coin, the reverses of the silver coins depict the Cross-country Skiing and the

High Platform Skiing. They are minted by Shenyang Mint and exclusively distributed by China Gold Inc..
