2002
Olympic Winter Games Silver Proof Dollar in Presentation Case
The 2002 Olympic
Winter Games Commemorative Silver Proof Dollar was designed
by U.S. Mint Sculptors/Engravers John Mercanti and Donna Weaver:
John Mercanti designed the obverse of the coin which features
the Crystal Emblem of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Olympic
Rings, and the Games' secondary identity mark entitled: "Rhythm
of the Land." The reverse designed by Donna Weaver depicts
the Salt Lake City skyline with the Rocky Mountains in the background.
This proof coin has a brilliant mirror-like finish. The term
"proof" refers to a specialized minting process, which
begins by manually feeding burnished coin blanks into presses
fitted with specially polished dies. Each coin is struck multiple
times so the softly frosted, yet detailed images seem to float
above a mirror-like field. The coin is then placed in a protective
plastic capsule and mounted in a handsome satin-lined velvet
presentation case, accompanied by its own official Certificate
of Authenticity. This proof commemorative silver dollar is U.S.
legal tender and is backed by the U.S. Government for weight
and content. |
