The Olympic Flame Appeared On Olympic Coins For The First Time
¡¡¡¡The first Olympic Games in Asia is the 18th Olympic Games held in Tokyo from Oct. 10 to Oct. 24 in

1964. A Japanese youth who was born on the day that the American A-bomb was exploded in Hiroshima

lighted up the Olympic flame, by this way, Japanese people showed their strong desire for peace.

Japanese government issued a two-coin set of commemorative silver coin for this game, and engraved the

Olympic flame on the coins for the first time in Olympic history.

¡¡¡¡The first silver coin weighs 4.8g. 60% in purity, 22.6mm in diameter, the face value is 100JPY. The

obverse design features Olympic rings on the Olympic flame. The reverse design features Characters ¡°

1964 TOKYO¡±, the face value, the year of issuance in Japanese.

¡¡¡¡The other silver coin weighs 20g, 92.5% in purity, 1,000 JPY, 35.1mm in diameter. The obverse design

features the title of Japan, the face value, the Fuji Mountain circled by cherry blossom. The reverse

design features Characters ¡°1964 TOKYO¡±, the face value, Olympic rings, the year of issuance in

Japanese, and the decorative pattern of cherry blossom.
