In accordance with concerned laws and regulations
together with the market demands, The People's Bank of China published
2002 Chinese Commemorative Gold and Silver Coins Issuance Plan in
Jan, 2002 in Beijing.The new plan includes three fixed
traditional projects: 2002 Panda Precious Metal Commemorative coins
( including: 20th Anniversary of the issuance of Panda
Coin Platinum, Silver coins ); Guiwei Year ( Year of sheep ) Gold
and Silver Coins; 2002 Beijing International Stamp & Coin
Expo. Commemorative Coins. 6 serial projects: Chinese Grottoes Art
Series( LongMen Grottoes ) Gold and Silver Coins;
Chinese Classical Literature works---A Dream of Red Mansion ( 2nd
set ); Chinese Folk Fairy Tales Colorful Gold and Silver
Coins ( 2nd set ); Chinese Beijing Opera Art Colorful Gold and Silver
Coins ( 4th set ); Chinese Traditional Folk Custom---
Dragon Boat Festival Silver Coins; Guan Yin Coins; 1 new project:
The Sichuan Sanxingdui Relics Gold and Silver Coins. 10
projects will be issue in 2002, among them, there will be 19 breeds
of gold coin, 1 breed of Platinum Coin, 21 breeds of Silver
Coins. The 2002 issue of Gold and Silver Coins will adopt minting
technologies like: mirror-like finishing, multiply sandblast,
bass-relief, high relief, laser hologram and so on. And will also
enhance the adoption of new technologies and anti-
counterfeiting art.
Chinese Gold and Silver Coins are legal tender of the PRC. designed
under specific themes and issued with certain quantities.
Chinese Gold and Silver Coins are collectibles and investment treasures
issued with the purpose of carrying forward the
traditional culture, disseminating communist ideas, enhancing patriotism
and propagandizing the great achievements of the
reform and open-door policy, pushing forward world peace. As informed,
the total issuance in the year 2002 is equal to in the
year 2001, among them: the total issuance of gold coin will be 251,000oz.
( include 220,000oz. panda Bu. gold coin );
401,000oz. decreased compare to the issuance in 2001; the total
issuance of silver coin will be 2047,000oz. ( include
500,000oz. panda Bu. silver coin ), 474,000oz. increased compare
to the issuance in 2001. Considering the changes in
domestic and foreign market, the issurance of 2002 gold and silver
commemorative coins will still adhere to the policy of
"control the total issuance, adjust the management structure,
ensure high quality, renew the variety".
