Since Finland issued the first set of commemorative
coins for the Olympic in 1951, issuing Olympic coins
has become one indispensable item of the Olympics. In
2008, the XXIX Olympic Games will be held in Beijing.
All the Chinese people are expecting Beijing to host
the most successful Olympic Games in history, at the
same time, looking forward to the Olympic Commemorative
Coins which record this pageant.
On July 13, 2006, the fifth anniversary of Beijing’s
success in biding for 2008 Olympic Games, the People’s
Bank of China will issue Precious Metal Commemorative
Coin of the XXIX Olympic Games (1st issue). This set
of Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins consists of 6
coins, including 2 gold coins, 4 silver coins. The major
patterns on gold coins feature Chinese archaic athletic
sports, and the major patterns on silver coins feature
Chinese archaic athletic sports and folk-custom civilization.
